GT Academy 2012 Nürburgring 24 Hour race documentary

A documentary following the 4 months of preparation by Team GT Academy, leading to the 2012 Nürburgring 24 Hour race.

Kazunori Yamauchi successfully achieved a class victory in the Nürburgring 24 hour race, racing with a private team in the previous year. In the following year of 2012, Mr. Yamauchi has taken on a new challenge. The car is a commercial spec Nissan GT-R. Update 2.09 Out Now

A new update (2.09) has been released for Gran Turismo 5 (102mb)
The main contents of the update are as follows:

- The [Tire/Fuel Consumption] settings under [Event Settings] of the Online Lounge can now be set in four levels; "None", "Normal", "Fast", and "Very Fast".

- The view during 3D display has been improved.

- The speed of tire wear varied too greatly depending on the vehicle in some cases, and this has been balanced.

- Improved the scoring method in drift trials to prevent cheating

- The maximum RPM of the Honda Weider HSV-010 (SUPER GT) '11 has been changed to 10300rpm. The engine sound has also been improved.
 
[Correction of Known Issues]
- Fixed an issue where enemy cars were hitting the pit entrance wall when pitting in at the Twin Ring Motegi Road Course East.
- Fixed an issue where fuel was not being consumed when entering an endurance race with a Prius, or when setting tires and fuel to be consumed in the online lounge. Affected cars: Toyota Prius G '02, Toyota Prius G '09, Toyota Prius G Touring Selection '03, Toyota Prius Touring Car.
- Fixed an issue where the online control characteristics differed from the offline characteristics.

Ford Mach Forty Wins 2012 GT Awards

The 2012 Gran Turismo Awards were held last night in Las Vegas, where Kazunori Yamauchi himself selected the David Eckert’s Ford Mach Forty as “Best in Show” from among the five category finalists.

The Mach Forty is an interesting and unusual car, which took three years to create.
As the name suggests, it is a combination of Mach 1 styling with a GT40 inspired power train. From the outset, it was designed to be a car that anyone could tell was a ’69 Mustang, but that would be nothing like any of the other 300,000 Mustangs that were built in that year.

A 1969 Mustang Mach 1 body was used to create the roof section, door frames, and doors. The tail section, quarter panels, front fender, hood, floor structures, and full peripheral frame are all new, hand formed steel pieces.

 
The engine is a 2006 Ford GT 5.4 liter dry sump unit, with a four liter Whipple supercharger, Mo TeC engine control unit, custom billet fuel rails, and dual Lamborghini throttle bodies. It also includes an “Adjustable Horsepower Dial” which allows you to adjust the car’s horsepower on the fly between 600-850hp.
Suspension is from a C6 Corvette with custom coil over shocks.

• Rate of tire wear in endurance races has been slowed (excluding formula cars).
• Amount of air resistance change when altering aerodynamic wing settings has been increased.
• Autopilot has been adjusted to prevent colliding with the wall when exiting the pit lane on the Tsukuba circuit.
• Adjusted the changes in control characteristic when altering vehicle height from standard height. (Vehicle height can be changed by adjusting ride height, either by installing a suspension kit or adjusting a full customizable suspension kit.)

Kaz Talks About GT6 & PS Vita

Kazunori Yamauchi is attending ChinaJoy 2012, one of Asia’s largest video game shows, in Shanghai this week.
While speaking with the press during a question-and-answer session, he made some interesting remarks about Gran Turismo 6 and Gran Turismo Vita, though stopped short of confirming the existence of a new mobile title.

Originally reported by Impress Watch and translated by AndriaSang, Kazunori stated that work on GT6 began immediately after GT5 was finished.
He also mentioned that “we’re always aiming for the latest technology and the latest expression,” further complicating speculation regarding which platform (PS3 or PS4) Gran Turismo 6 will appear on.

Regarding a Vita title, he chose his words very carefully while answering a question about the hypothetical game; ”If we were to make it, we’d like to make use of the ability to play anywhere and the ability to use 3G at any time.”

Kazunori also stated that he will be visiting the local Shanghai International Circuit, which has hosted China’s Formula 1 Grand Prix since 2004, to consider what “elements” could be integrated in a future Gran Turismo title.

GT6 Track Rumors

While helping out with the Polish GT Academy 2012 finals, Lucas Ordoñez made an interesting comment about Gran Turismo 6‘s development, which he’s reportedly involved in.
According to a reporter on hand at the event, Lucas suggested the series’ next flagship title would include a very large number of tracks. Though the Polish source article is not clearly translated by Google, but Amar212 offers a better interpretation of what was said:

“The amount of (tracks) will be such that will make a hat fall off your head.”
“Hat falling off your head” is common way to say how you will be amazed by something.

Representatives from Polyphony Digital have, of course, already been spotted at the Bathurst circuit, scanning and photographing it for Gran Turismo 6.

Over 25 different circuit logos also remain on GT5‘s “Remote B-Spec Racing” website, though they are not currently available in the game.

A new bundle version of GT5 has been announced this lunchtime for Europeans – the Academy Edition, to celebrate the fourth year of the Sony/Nissan tie-in of GT Academy.
Coming after the US-only Gran Turismo 5 XL, Academy Edition gives Europeans their first chance to buy a disc version of the Spec 2 upgraded game with a free DLC bundle – and it’s quite the bundle, featuring:

• Complete Pack (Car Pack, Course Pack, Special Paint Pack, Racing Gear Pack)
• Car Pack 2
• Car Pack 3 and Course Pack 2
• The Nissan GTR driven in this year’s Nurburgring 24 hour race by series creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

TopoClandestino: What does a community of gamers/drivers, like the Spanish, continually supporting Gran Turismo, mean to you?
Yamauchi-san: Spain is the country I’m most fond of, above all for its land, for its people, for its food, etc. It’s a place where I can relax and feel very much at ease. And the most important thing is, as we’ve seen in the presentation, the fact that I’m surrounded by so many people, allows me to absorb all of that energy which they emit and that, to me, is very important.

GAMELAB: Will it be a while until we see GT Vita?
Yamauchi-san: Well, this type of information is confidential and I still cannot talk to you guys about that.

CJ_vzla: Do you believe that GT Academy could extend itself to regions like South America?
Yamauchi-san: I have a feeling; yes. Really, I believe that a South American GT Academy could become a reality since GT Academy started out being a very small project, but little by little, it’s expanding.

lorddevil6969696: Will we have new DLC for GT5?
Yamauchi-san: Yes, we are preparing new DLC content for GT5. Despite it being a long time since GT5′s release, we have received a lot of fan messages asking about new DLC content. And that display of continued interest is something very important to us.

ozvaldini: Could a story mode be implemented to better the gaming experience?
Yamauchi-san: Of course that’s possible. On a daily basis, new ideas and future visions come to mind to include in future Gran Turismo titles. So, responding to your question, yes, we are thinking of new ways to ensure that users will have the most fun.

THUNDERbreaks: Will there be some sort of event editor in the future?
Yamauchi-san: Of course, this is something we’ve been thinking about and I’m keeping it in mind for future improvements.

AK_KOV: Will we someday see the Porsche license in GT?
Yamauchi-san: Well, we can’t say no; it’s something that many users ask me.

Guitis77: How come, while in a race, the time gaps (differences) don’t show up for the car in front of you and behind you?
Yamauchi-san: If the public demands it, it can be implemented. The problem we have is that in the same screen (the racing display, as we call it), we have to put in a lot of information, too much information. That’s why at the beginning, we only saw it necessary to insert the times of the leading car, but hey, it’s something we’re always giving a go.

PS.Blog: On the PlayStation blog, we know that Kazunori Yamauchi is a huge motor enthusiast. We would like to know your opinion about GT Academy and Lucas Ordoñez.
Yamauchi-san: Well, first, I consider it a miracle that a video game could be the gateway to something as real as driving race cars. That a program like GT Academy could be able to do this brings me great satisfaction. And the idea of looking back at people like Lucas Ordoñez being capable of adapting to the change of risking his life on circuits is something that makes me very happy. What Lucas does is impressive and I really hope that you are filled with his spirit because he is someone that has opened the pathway for all of you.

The official Italian Gran Turismo website has just published new details about Gran Turismo 5‘s upcoming downloadable content.
As expected, Twin Ring Motegi will be coming to the game, including four different configurations: the Road Course, Super Speedway, East Course, and West Course. It will be available at a price of €5.00 (prices in other regions have not yet been confirmed).

GT Academy 2012 Exceeds 1 Million Players

GT Academy 2012 seems to have captured the interest of PS3 gamers as the number of unique players participating passed the magic 1,000,000 mark earlier this week.
In a series of Tweets on June 19th, Kazunori Yamauchi shared with us a number of statistics about the download’s impact. Current numbers include:

• Over 1,000,000 unique PSN IDs playing
• Over 10,000,000 gold trophies attained
• More than 174,000,000 player retries
• 111,240,000 miles/178,980,000 km driven – enough to drive from the Earth to the Sun and almost a fifth of the distance back again!

There are still four days to go until this first phase of GT Academy closes on June 25th and qualifying, registered players from eligible countries will be selected for their regional finals based on their Round 8-5 times – and for the rest of us to secure the gold trophies needed to get bonus gifts in Gran Turismo 5.

Gran Turismo for PlayStation Vita?

A Gran Turismo game has been released for every single piece of PlayStation-branded hardware to date, with the notable exception of Sony’s latest hand-held device, the PlayStation Vita. That may be about to change.
In an official customer survey conducted by Sony, participants are presented with the following, as reported by IGN:

“You told us earlier how interested you would be in buying the PS Vita version of the latest Gran Turismo game. Knowing that you might be able to get a discount on the PS3 version of the game, how interested are you now in the PS Vita version?”

Though it’s not confirmation that a Gran Turismo Vita title is in the works (it’s worth noting there have been no other rumors about a GT title for the platform), this does clearly indicate such a game is on Sony’s radar.

GT5 Update 2.07 Out Now

The update weighs in at just 2,193kB and, as expected from an update of this kind of size, consists of a bug fix:

Updates and New Features

• It is now possible to adjust the race BGM and sound effect volume from “Quick Options” during a race.
• A save data backup feature has been added.
• Compatibility for the sequential shift mode of the Guillemot “TH8 RS” gear shifter has been added.
• A “Performance Difference Adjustment” has been added to the rewards for seasonal events (Applies only to seasonal events held after this update).
• Force feedback for the “Driving Force GT”, “GT FORCE Pro”, “G25 Racing Wheel”, ” G27 Racing Wheel”, and ” T500 RS” steering wheel controllers have been improved.
• A car with racing modifications applied are now categorized as a Racing Car (previously Tuned Car).
• The off-track shortcut penalty has been tweaked.

Bug Fixes

• Fixed a problem where Karts and Ferrari F1 cars could drive together with other cars in the Lounge
• Fixed a rarely occurring issue in which the system freezes when exiting the lounge
• Fixed a problem where you could purchase tires for the 125 SPL racing Kart in the tuning parts shop (Tires purchased previously will now become invalid)
• Fixed a problem in which the straight-line stability of the Lancer Evolution X was decreased when using a steering wheel controller
• Fixed an issue where wrong color dirt and snow tire wheels were displayed on some cars when the wheels were changed
• Fixed delay when launching electric cars using controllers other than a steering wheel controller pedal
• Fixed a rarely occurring issue where the system would freeze at the end of a race

GT Academy 2012 Starts Today

The search for the next generation of GT Academy champions begins today! 
This year’s competition will be bigger than ever before, open to players in more than 15 countries in four different regions:

• Europe:
• Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg
• France
• Italy
• Spain and Portugal
• Switzerland
• Austria and Poland
• UK and Ireland
• The United States of America
• Russia
• Germany

Here’s how everything works  

The exclusive Gran Turismo content will be available to download from PlayStation Store, free of charge, from 17.00BST / 18.00CEST on May 1 until 23.59BST / 00.59CEST on 24 June. You can download and take part at any time during this period, so even if you miss the start you can still play catch up and get involved.  

Once you have downloaded the content, Polyphony Digital will release new rounds approximately every two weeks; in total there are eight rounds and within each round there are five sections.

Here’s a list of the rounds and when they will be available:

Round 1 and 2: 1/5 (Tue) 17.00BST – 24/6 (Sun) 23:59 BSTRound 3 and 4: 14/5 (Mon) 00:00 – 24/6 (Sun) 23:59 BST Round 5 and 6: 28/5 (Mon) 00:00 – 24/6 (Sun) 23:59 BST Round 7 and 8 (ROUND 8 IS FINAL/QUALIFICATION EVENT):  6/11 (Mon) 00:00 – 24/6 (Sun) 23:59 BST

A champion will be crowned from each region, with each getting the chance to drive for Nissan in the 2013 Dubai 24 Hours. Players in other countries will likely be able to download and play the demo, but will not be eligible for the competition’s main prize. As of writing, however, no official confirmation of this has been announced by Sony.
GT Academy 2012 will be available on the PlayStation 3 as a free, downloadable mini-game via the PlayStation Store. The game will consist of eight consecutive time trial events over the next eight weeks.

GT5 Update 2.04 Out Now

A new update has been released for Gran Turismo 5
 
The main contents of the update are as follows:

- Improved the performance of online races to provide a better racing experience. However, please note that using voice chat by 12 or more players can reduce screen refresh intervals.

- Reduced wobbling of the screen when using the Chase view. (The Chase view is when the car is viewed from the rear during races and replays, selected by switching views using the SELECT button)

- Electric cars (opponent cars and your cars in B-Spec) will now pit-in automatically to recharge the battery.

- Reduced the amount of steering pull when using force feedback steering wheel controllers in banks of tracks such as the Special Stage Route X Oval.

- The initial force feedback of Logitech steering wheel controllers when driving formula cars, has been made milder, and was adjusted to make it easier to drive in a straight line.

[Correction of Known Issues]
- Fixed an issue where speedometer, position and/or best lap time is sometimes not displayed on the 2nd player side of the 2P Split Screen.
- Fixed an issue where exhaust noise is heard even after changing from a combustion engine car to an electric car in the same online race.
- Fixed an issue where if the game is started without signing in online and then saved, the cars and tracks included in the Racing Car Pack and Course Pack would become unusable.
- Fixed an issue where electric cars would not recharge in the pit and become immobile.
- Fixed an issue where when the oil of the Toyota Prius was changed in GT Auto, the motor ceased to function correctly.
- Improved the force feedback of the Guillemot Thrustmaster T500 RS, where the 10 level adjustment of feedback force (Especially when using the X2010 and X2011) was not working effectively. Also improved a condition where it was difficult to drive in the intended path.
- Improved the force feedback for the Logitech Driving Force™ GT, G25 Racing Wheel, G27 Racing Wheel and GT Force®Pro, where the 10 level adjustment of Feedback Force (Especially when using the X2010 and X2011) was not working effectively.

GT5 2.03 Update Now Available

The latest Gran Turismo 5 update, version 2.03, weighs in at 225MB and is currently going live around the world.

• 12 new My Home theme colors and 12 new wallpapers for [GT Mode] have been added to the game. Please find these from the [My Home Settings]-[My Home Design] menu on the left side of the screen.
• Tire wear speed prediction has been added to the pit stop decisions in B-Spec, to prevent tires from wearing out completely during long races.
• Regenerative braking (which recovers energy by converting kinetic energy into electricity) in electric cars have been made stronger to extend driving distance.
• Electric cars will now also creep forward (as in standard automatic cars) when the brake is released without pressing the accelerator.
• Regarding the Chaparral 2J race car’s performance points, the increased performance factor due to the downforce produced by the fan is now calculated.
• A issue has been corrected where the car would pit in unintentionally during the last lap of a B spec race.
